Brilliant Tapestry of Women's Voices

Excerpt from Chapter 3 of :

Spices in the Melting Pot
Life Stories of Exeptional
South Asian Immigrant Women

"Why is there a negative connotation attached to human sexuality? I am a dancer, and my body is my temple in which I invoke God every time I dance. We trained our bodies to look elegant, to look beautiful, to look graceful. We were taught that our bodies became the instrument of worship every time we danced. We were taught that the erotic content of the divine love poetry, used abundantly by dancers, was a metaphor for spiritual yearning. Why? Why did the poets use that as a metaphor? It is because the actual physical union of two people in love is probably the most beautiful and the closest feeling to bliss."

" I also believe in the basic freedom of an artist to create. No one has the right to deny or take away that freedom."
